I know, the band U2 is not everyone’s cup of tea, but New Year’s Day is quickly approaching. And every year for the past 15 or so years I have made it a tradition to blast this tune in whatever vehicle I happen to drive that day. The lyric, “nothing changes, on New Year’s Day” stands to remind me, yet again and forever, as the years go by, nothing ever really changes.
I know, not a really uplifting thought, but it never hurts to remind ourselves that time is the only currency we actually possess. The technology and trappings of our lives change, but the rules we play by don’t.
As Umarex winds this year down, we are thankful, very thankful for you, our customers, fans, and family. We are still growing as a company. We are still testing waters for new products and we are still trying to provide service like we are a much smaller company.
You know as well as we do that when an organization exists for a span of time, the environment can change and often that is not for the better of the consumer. Sometimes it’s not for the better of anyone. While we want to make products that are new and exciting, we don’t want to change a thing about our culture and our relationship to our customers. Those things are too important to change.
At an event earlier in the year I was having a conversation with a friend who works at one of our competitors. As our conversation turned towards the airgun business in general, we were complemented on how we can still be reached by phone, we sell products that get people into airgunning, and that we support the industry through event sponsorships, the Airgun Sporting Association, and developing innovative products.
This conversation has stuck with me as these words from a competitor reinforced, our niche of the outdoor market is best served if the airgunning public is able to find what they are looking for wherever they are on their journey with airguns. It might be through Umarex or it might be through another company. We (airgun manufacturers) just need to make sure we are doing what we do and do that well. A rising tide will lift all the ships in the harbor.
So here’s to a rising tide in 2025.
Stay tuned for announcements from SHOT Show 2025. This event will go down January 20th through the 24th. We will be out in Vegas as per usual for the festivities and goings on during this time. Sorry, but no previews as to what we will be rolling out, but we hope there will be a little something for everyone. In the meantime, if the weather is fair where you are, we hope you can get some trigger time in. And if it’s not, well, do what people do in those iced over areas!
