The Best Air Pistol on the Market?

“The best”-- it’s a subjective term in cases of preference and definitive in terms of a race or track performance. When it comes to marketing and selling stuff, “The Best” is often proclaimed on a certain product to get your attention– “Best in class towing capacity”, “Best sounding speakers under $XXX” and on and on. What one person thinks is the best for them another person might think is the worst thing in the world. Such are subjective judgements that factor in brand loyalty, perceived biases, texture, color, and je n’sais pas often form the overall opinion we hold concerning a thing.

Therefore I can unequivocally state that the best air pistol on the market is… The Umarex Brodax. Hear me out. BB guns and BB pistols in particular are all about fun. A BB pistol should be fun, easy to use, adhere to certain conventions associated with pistols, and provide hours and hours of cheap entertainment. There are plenty of BB guns that do some of these well, but might lose out on one category. Take our Beretta M92 A1 for instance. It’s very fun, fairly easy to use, certainly holding to conventions, and will provide hours and hours of entertainment, but for a BB pistol, it is kinda pricey. For some people, especially someone who highly values the Beretta Brand and their legacy 92 Series handguns this is the whole point. It will be the best air pistol for that person.

My claim for this article is that the Umarex Brodax is a top performer in all of these categories. A bold claim, but I strongly believe that this is quantifiable, even on the more subjective categories. First of all, the Brodax is undeniably fun. Load it up, pull the trigger and plink away– day or night, and with the standard iron sights or an optional reflex sight. It is fun to customize your stuff. We love to customize everything we can. With the Brodax this is especially easy as it has two accessory rails, one below the barrel for laser or white lights, and one on the top strap for reflex pistol sights.

When it comes to ease of use, the Brodax is a certified winner. The CO2 cartridge is super easy to change out. Just pop the left side of the grip off and use the built in tool to loosen the piercing screw. Slide in the fresh cartridge and snug it down and pop the grip cover back on and that part is done. Loading the magazines couldn’t get any simpler. Push the magazine pin forward, slide out the magazine, poke 10-BBs into the holes and reinstall. Just remember that the gear on the magazine goes to the rear of the pistol and you are golden. Snap the magazine pin back in place and viola! The Brodax is ready to shoot.

While the Brodax is not based on any one revolver on the market, it does have all the revolver feel and function people associate with the design. Where it does take liberties, namely the magazine system and dual accessory rails, it remains true with traditional revolver ergonomics, double or single action operation, and long sight radius. Revolvers have gotten hot on the shooting front over the past few years and the Brodax is doing all the revolver things well, but with updated looks and function.

With the simple and reliable revolver design, the Brodax will take care of you so long as you take care of it. That is to say, don’t over tighten the CO2 screw, or try to shoot pellets out of it and it will last and last. Perhaps best of all of the possible things about the Brodax is the fact that it is very affordable. The MSRP is less than $50 and anymore, $50 can go bye-bye with half a tank of fuel for your car or couple of burgers at your local greasy spoon.

Even if you aren’t an air pistol shooter, you owe it to yourself to get a Brodax, if only for the utility of being able to do some backyard plinking when you can’t get out to the range with your PCP. The Brodax is a no-brainer decision for anyone who loves shooting. And what kind of weirdo doesn’t love shooting? I rest my case.
