The Day Bob Sasquatch went Electric

With a recent biopic on Bob Dylan hitting the silver screens and small screens across the world even people who were born in this century should be able to get the allusion found in the title.  If you can’t, here’s the meaning; Bob Dylan was one of the best singer-songwriters in the previous century. Still is in many people’s books. Early in his career and, like all of his folk contemporaries, he was an acoustic musician. Then there was a point where Mr. Dylan saw the writing on the wall; the folk sound was on the way out and the louder, brasher electric sounds of the 60’s were in. Dylan went electric and the rest is history.

While the comparison doesn’t exactly carry over it does offer an interesting insight into the vast world of airgunning and how battery powered airguns have dug out a niche for themselves.

So where does the electric powered airgun fit in? If you deduced from logic that .177 caliber BB would be that fit, you would be correct. BB guns are and always have been about fun. They aren’t powerful enough to be used for hunting, nor are they pin-point accurate for longer range competition shooting. But when it comes to knocking around tin cans or revealing all the splatter on a Shoot-N-C target, nothing surpasses a BB gun.  Even better is when the BB gun has multiple shot capability.  Even better than that is when the valve on a CO2 powered BB gun doesn’t freeze because there is no valve to freeze!

This is precisely the reason why we made the AER16.  You get modern sporting rifle design, single or full-auto BB flinging action, and reliable electric power! For those of you who are familiar with airsoft, this is nothing new.  The AEG (Automatic Electric Gun) has been a mainstay for airsofters for decades now. It has only been recently that the concept has moved over to the .177 caliber BB side of airgunning.

The AER16 uses an included 11.1v LiPo battery with a discharge rate of 35C to send as many as 650 BBs downrange on a full charge.  Since the AER16 borrows heavily from the airsoft world, there’s no secret sauce for finding a spare battery for it.  Just go to your local airsoft shop, the Umarex Website, or our sister site, Elite Force Airsoft and match the voltage and the battery connection (Tamiya). The more Milliamp Hours (MaH) the battery is rated for, the longer the battery will last longer when shooting.

The magazine for the AER16 holds 55 BBs and is best loaded with a mechanical speed loader (also included).  Like many modern sporting rifles, our electric BB flinger has a full length top picatinny rail, QD sling mounts, M-LOK slots, adjustable stock and flip up sights.  It’s all there except for the boom and recoil.

And the good news! The AER16 is now available! You can pick one up at our website by clicking on this highlighted text. If you are looking to take your backyard fun up a notch, the AER16 is juiced up for the task.
