It’s that time of year where we start thinking about what we would like to give– and what we would like to receive. Our loved ones have wish lists and so do we. So whether you are scouring the internet for ideas for your loved ones or scratching down notes for yourself, here’s what’s hot under the Umarex umbrella for the 2024 holiday season.
This is the second of three blog entries and this blog will focus on traditional air rifles– that is spring or gas piston powered air rifles.
Keep it Simple, Stupid!
The K.I.S.S principle really is a lifesaver sometimes. Simple things have a way of working, lasting, and being predictable. The traditional break barrel rifle certainly fits into this K.I.S.S way of thinking very well. One air rifle that we’ve seen become very popular over the last few years is the Prymex. The Prymex is available in either .177 or .22 caliber and has a single stroke gas-piston power source. Breaking the barrel open allows you to both load a pellet into the breech and ready the T.N.T gas piston for the shot. One thing you might notice about this Prymex is the precision-style stock it is equipped with. This is a very comfortable, ergonomic rifle. It does come with both iron sights and an optic so you can set it up how you would prefer. In .177 caliber a lead pellet will travel at 950 FPS and in .22 caliber a lead pellet will fly out of the muzzle around 825 FPS. This is plenty of energy for pesting or small game hunting, should that be on your list of things to take care of.
Multi-Shot Air Rifle
This year, the Emerge has been the go-to multi-shot air rifle for Umarex fans this year, even though we introduced the Synergis Elite at the year’s mid-point. The Emerge is a break barrel design that incorporates a 12-shot auto-indexing rotary magazine, fiber-optic iron sights, 4X scope, ergonomic all-weather stock and built in SilenceAir sound suppressor. The Emerge offers the airgunner a lot of bang ( is that the right word?) for their buck. Oh, almost forgot, the Emerge is available in either .177 or .22 caliber and will shoot lead pellets, respectively, at 950 and 825 FPS.
Hunting Focused Air Rifle
If hunting is your thing, you might find that the Ruger Targis Hunter Max fits the bill. And that is the reason why a lot of airgunners have chosen this Ruger as their go-to air rifle. The Targis Hunter Max is equipped with a 3-9X40 Adjustable Objective scope, a sling, fiber-optic iron sights, all-weather polymer stock and SilencAir sound suppression built in. This airgun is only available in .22 caliber and will shoot lead pellets at 825 FPS.
Youth-Sized Air Rifle
Another Ruger has been at the top of our youth category for a long time now. This would be the Ruger Explorer. With a 12 inch length of pull (distance from the trigger to the buttplate of the stock), this compact air rifle is not only good for younger shooters, but the whole family can enjoy some pellet plinking with the Explorer. This single stroke spring powered air rifle is available in .177 caliber only and shoots at 500 FPS. The Explorer included fiber-optic sights and an 11mm dovetail scope mount should you want to add a scope later.
